Abstract

Abstract. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a model for forming value orientations toward physical culture among Chinese university students based on the analysis of quality of life indicators. Methods. The following methods were applied: theoretical analysis of scientific and methodological literature, psychological methods (M. Rokeach’s Value Survey and the SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire), and methods of mathematical statistics. Results. Within the framework of the study, a model for forming value orientations toward physical culture among university students was developed and implemented. The model involves the creation of a motivational and value-oriented educational environment, the use of various forms of organizing students’ physical activity, and the step-by-step organization of the pedagogical process. The results of the study demonstrated positive changes in quality of life indicators among both male and female students across all scales of the SF-36 questionnaire. In particular, improvements were observed in physical functioning, general health, vitality, social functioning, and mental health. Conclusions. The findings indicate that the formation of a system of terminal values (health, active lifestyle, physical well-being) and instrumental values (discipline, responsibility, self-control) contributes to increasing the level of physical activity among university students and improving the physical, psychological, and social components of quality of life. The proposed model can be used to optimize the system of physical education in higher education institutions.
