The study aims to substantiate the necessity of implementing an English language course for military personnel (Military English – ME) based on an analysis of their language proficiency levels. Given the increasing demand for English proficiency among military personnel due to active participation in international operations and the escalating military-political situation, the issue of high-quality ME instruction remains highly relevant. However, despite state policy requirements and a resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine emphasizing the need for military language training, there is a noticeable shortage of specialized ME courses. Methods. The research is based on an analysis of the results of online testing (Google Forms) conducted among military personnel of different age groups, ranks, and units to assess their level of English proficiency. A statistical method was used to evaluate their language skills, along with content analysis of academic sources related to the specifics of teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the military sector. Results. The analysis of the obtained data confirmed the heterogeneity of English proficiency levels among military personnel, complicating the implementation of a standardized teaching approach. It was established that effective ME training requires the development of adaptive programs that consider the specific needs of military personnel based on their professional tasks. The study also revealed a lack of academic research assessing the effectiveness of various ME teaching methodologies, as well as the absence of a unified terminological framework. Conclusions. A structured ME course is proposed, featuring a leveled classification aligned with the competencies of military personnel. It was determined that the effective implementation of ME requires a comprehensive approach that integrates theoretical training, situational exercises, and specialized vocabulary usage. The study’s findings can serve as a foundation for further development of teaching materials and the enhancement of ESP programs for military personnel.
