Modern approaches to teaching English are based on the fact that language is not only a means of communication, but also a reflection of behavioral patterns, value systems, and the peculiarities of the mentality of its speakers. Lack of knowledge of linguistic units and understanding of their cultural conditioning leads to incomplete assimilation of the material and complicates the adequate perception of real communication situations. In the context of globalization and growing interest in English-speaking culture, the development of a special course aimed at developing intercultural competence is of particular importance within educational programs. The purpose of the article is to trace the importance of taking into account the linguo-sociocultural factor when teaching English, as well as to describe the tasks presented in the course "Aspects of British Communication" that contribute to expanding students' knowledge of British culture. Methods. To achieve the set goal, a comprehensive analysis of scientific research was conducted on the consideration of linguistic, sociocultural factors in teaching a foreign language. Data for the study were obtained through pedagogical observation of English language teaching at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, as well as through the analysis of authentic materials, in particular the educational and professional program, as well as the work programs of academic disciplines. Results. The developed special course, aimed at studying and practicing the use of British norms of speech behavior, allows developing adaptive communication skills, as well as forming sustainable intercultural competence. Conclusions. The British model of communication is characterized by a high level of contextuality, pronounced normativity of speech behavior, an emphasis on politeness, indirectness, and adherence to strict etiquette forms. Taking into account linguistic, sociocultural features makes it possible to avoid communicative failures caused by differences in speech etiquette and pragmatics of statements.
